Balestrand

Balestrand, Norway

Village by the Sognefjord in Western Norway. The main occupation is tourism, fruit cultivation and public services. Or you may bring your own work.

This small village of approx 800 inhabitants is an international melting pot with 30 different nationalities living here. Balestrand has been welcoming both Norwegian and foreign visitors since the late 1800s. Artists painted the landscape from about 1820, and some of them settled down and built themselves villas in Dragon style. Balestrand is regarded as the cradle of the  romantic period in Norwegian art history. We welcome residents in co-working locations, as artists-in-residence , chefs-in-residence, and we consider open calls for workation stays in our village.
